This week’s Football Preview is the Cold Springs Eagles. After a tough winless season last year, this year’s team will have some new faces, including first-year head coach Brennan Voce. Voce, an Addison alum, is bringing an old school, win the trenches style of play known as “three yards and a cloud of dust.” For a glimpse into what’s to come, a former teammate described Coach Voce as “a tough-nosed player that always did the right things. Extremely fundamentally sound and could always be relied on.”

This year’s Eagle team will be bringing 5 starters back on each side of the ball. Seniors Victor Laurentius and Hank Harrison, along with junior Josh Winfrey, look to be this team’s impact players. This group brings experience and playmaking ability to both sides of the ball.

This year Cold Springs will be in 2A Region 5, possibly the toughest region in 2A. Of the 6 opponents, 5 made the playoffs, with three going past the first round, and the lone team to miss the playoffs, Winston County, finished 5-5.

The Eagles will open on the road against 4A Curry Friday, August 19th, at home, for their first matchup since 1977, where Curry won 22-6.
