Charlotte Michelle Cost (50) and Erica Lee Cobb (26), both of Cullman, were arrested Wednesday, October 13th, and booked into the Cullman County Detention Center. The mother/daughter duo was charged with a Class B felony for ‘Computer Tampering.’

The complaint stated, “Charlotte Michelle Cost and Erica Lee Cobb, whose names are otherwise unknown to the Grand Jury, did, on or about June 25th, 2018, through August 10th, 2018, acting without authority or exceeding authorization of use, did knowingly obtain information that is required by law to be kept confidential, or records that are not public records, to-wit: Cullman Regional Medical Center Medical records of ‘the victim’ by accessing a computer, computer system, or network that is operated by the State of Alabama, a political subdivision of the State of Alabama, or a medical institution, and said act relates to access to an Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center information system, or data regulated under the authority of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center Commission, in violation of Title 1A-8-112 (a) (7) of the Code of Alabama against the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama.”

On Tuesday, June 1st, Charlotte Michelle Cost’s husband, James “Jimmy” Manley Cost, was arrested by the Cullman Police Department after a Grand Jury indictment for one count of First Degree Rape and one count of Second Degree Assualt after an incident that took place in 2018.

The investigation began in August of 2018 when the victim accused Cost of rape and assault. ALACourt records state that the first count, Cost is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with a female who was incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless or mentally incapacitated. The second count states, for a purpose other than lawful medical or therapeutic treatment, did intentionally cause stupor, unconsciousness or other physical or mental impairment, to wit: caused unconsciousness, to the victim by administering to her, without her consent, a drug, substance or preparation capable of producing the intended harm, to-wit: Lorazepam. Lorazepam is a sedative/controlled substance used to control anxiety before surgery or seizure disorders such as epilepsy. The side effects can cause paranoid or suicidal ideation and impaired memory, judgment, and coordination.

Cost has a past arrest record that includes setting off a pipe bomb in a Neptune Beach, Florida K-Mart in December of 1993 that injured four people where he was charged with Arson. He was also the suspect of another bombing that occurred at a K-Mart in Jacksonville, Florida. Additionally, court documents indicated that Cost agreed to one count of exploding a pipe bomb to maliciously damage the store and one count of using explosive material to damage the building. Cost served his prison sentence and was released.

James “Jimmy” Manley Cost is currently held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $75,000 cash bond.

Charlotte Michelle Cost and Erica Lee Cobb were both booked into the Cullman County Jail on October 13th and released on a $10,000 bond.
