The Cullman Bearcats sweeps Decatur Friday with a 6-1 win in the first game and 9-4 victory in the 2nd game of the doubleheader.
Cullman Pitcher Jake Dueland earned the win for Cullman in the first game. The Bearcat stud lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out nine.
The Bearcats bats came alive with eight hits on the day. Matt Brock, Max Dueland, and Hayden Stancil each had multiple hits for Cullman. Brock led the Bearcats with three hits in five at-bats. Cullman’s defense was perfect in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
Tucker Apel picked up the win for the Cats in the second game. Apel went four innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out five, and walking one.
Cullman took the lead late in the game in a 9-4 victory over Decatur. The game was tied at three with the Bearcats batting in the top of the fifth when Max Dueland doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
Weston Horton started the game for Cullman. Horton lasted three innings, allowing one hit and three runs while striking out eight.
The Bearcats mounted nine hits. Dueland, Brennen Norton, Austin Hurt, and Paxton Ponder all had multiple hits for the Cats. Ponder, Hurt, Norton, and Dueland, respectively, had two hits. Cullman stole eleven bases during the game, with Jake Dueland leading the way with three.
