The Cullman High School Baseball team was eager to hit the field today for the first time since COVID put a damper on the 2020 season. The Bearcats have put a tremendous amount of off-season work in with the hopes of bringing home another championship.

The Bearcats 3rd baseman all-star and Jacksonville State commit Brennen Norton said, “We have been working extremely hard in the off-season. This team is super special to me. Coach Patterson could say the same. We’ve got a lot of personality and a lot of tributes that will benefit us in the long run. Today was our first day, and we were just getting into the swing of things. Senior year is a big year for everyone, but we’ve had a chip on our shoulders with the whole COVID deal we dealt with last year. We have come a long way to get here, and there is no stopping now. Personally, I’ve had a chip on my shoulder ever since I made that error versus Hazel Green my freshman year. I told myself I wasn’t going to let anyone outwork me. I wasn’t going to let any other team outwork us.”

Coach Brent Patterson is no doubt ready for the 2021 season to start. His well-oiled machine was no different today than any other first day of practice. The team shows up to the field today, and it’s all business from now until the Champions are crowned in May.

“It was great to get back out on the field and get to work. Last year taught us and everyone else that you can’t take things for granted. These guys missed a majority of their season, so it feels like we have a team full of first-year varsity players, which we do.The entire coaching staff has been extremely impressed with the guys’ work ethic this offseason. We have a lot of high character kids who have put in hours and hours of extra work. They love each other and seem to love working at the game. As a coach, that’s all we can ever ask for. We are just really thankful to be healthy and able to get out there and enjoy the game and everything that goes into putting a team together.” – Coach Brent Patterson

The Bearcats will throw their first pitch of the regular season, February 15th.
