Hanceville Police Department in conjunction with Clarksville, TN Police Department is currently searching for murder suspect Eric Lamar Caffey. Caffey is wanted for the murder of 42-year-old Christopher Young. The murder took place in Clarksville, Tn in mid-May. If you know the whereabouts of Mr. Caffey you are urged to contact Hanceville Police Department or call 911. Caffey is considered armed and dangerous. Please do not try to approach Caffey.

Hanceville Police Department was contacted by Investigators from Clarksville to assist in the search of Caffey and 24-year-old Amber Lynn Tanner. Investigators and police officers from both departments were able to track down Tanner and detain her in the Hanceville jail for questioning. Tanner admitted to her involvement with the murder of Young and implicated Caffey’s involvement as the actual trigger man in the case.  Clarksville obtained a warrant for Tanner and at that point, she was transferred to the Cullman County Detention Center where she awaited extradition to Clarksville.

Caffey has an extensive wrap sheet in the Hanceville and Cullman community. Caffey has several pending drug charges, along with being charged for robbery, assault, and attempted murder. In March of 2018, Caffey was involved in a police shooting in Hanceville after Caffey brandished a firearm which led to Caffey being shot in the shoulder.

Caffey’s warrant has been turned over to the U.S. Marshals.

“We have dealt with Mr. Caffey in Hanceville and Cullman County for several years. He is a violent criminal and I hate it has come to the point of him murdering someone to hopefully get him off the streets for good. I would like to thank Captain Brandon Hammick and Sgt. Josh Howell for the time they put in with Clarksville, TN Investigators along with the Cullman County District Attorneys Office for their role each case.” – Hanceville Deputy Chief Adam Hadder
