Early morning on February 13th, multiple calls reported a prowler in the South East area of Cullman. Officers were unable to locate the suspect until 6:00 am when a call came in referencing a prowler near a home on 11th St. SE.

One resident said the suspect was on his roof after trying to enter his home. The resident attempted to chase the suspect on foot.

Officer Roy Bates of the Cullman Police Department arrived on the scene and observed a man run from inside the garage through a door into the residence. Officer Bates approached the residence and could hear yelling and saw a female resident had the burglar at gunpoint inside the home. The suspect then turned back out the door and into the custody of officer Bates.

The suspect has been identified as Chad Steven Daugherty. Due to the actions and comments made by Daugherty, paramedics were dispatched to the scene. After being checked he was then transported to the hospital for further treatment. Daugherty has been charged with two counts of Burglary 3rd Degree.

Captain Gene Bates of the Cullman Police Department said, “I would like to commend the citizens in that neighborhood that called, the officers that responded and the occupants of the residence in which Daugherty was apprehended for their vigilance and ‘Discretion’.”
