The Kimberly Police Department announced the name of the officer who was shot and killed last night in a police chase while rendering mutual aid to a neighboring police department. The neighboring police department was not named, however the chase originating in the Warrior Police Department jurisdiction.
The officer that was shot was Police K-9 Officer Nick O’Rear. Officer O’Rear was a veteran of the Kimberly Police Department for one year. Officer’s O’Rear K9 Partner’s name is Stella and was together since November 1, 2019. He was the father of two children with one on the way.
The City of Kimberly has passed the investigation to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the SBI will turn everything over to the District Attorney. The City of Kimberly had no comment on the investigation.
Arrangements will be announced when they are finalized.
