According to White Settlement Police Chief J.P. Bevering, a gunman opened fire at West Freeway Church of Christ, located just outside of Forth Worth, killing one person and critically wounding another.

Two heroic, pistol permit carrying churchgoers stepped in immediately and returned fire, killing the suspect and saving numerous lives.

Macara Trusty, a spokeswoman for Medstar Mobile, confirmed the suspected shooter and victim died en route to a local hospital, while another victim is currently in critical condition after being resuscitated.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott released a statement in response to the tragedy, stating that “Our hearts go out to the victims and families of those killed in the evil act of violence that occurred at the West Freeway Church of Christ. Places of worship are meant to be sacred, and I am grateful for the church members who acted quickly to take down the shooter and help prevent further loss of life.”
