Cullman, AL – Quintana Rainwater (32) of Cullman was arrested Wednesday evening at her residence and charged with Murder Reckless, Manslaughter, Criminal Negligent Homicide, Driving Under the Influence, and Running a Red Light.
In January 2019 Mrs. Rainwater was traveling highway 31 south when she ran a red light in her Ford Escape and struck Charlotte Nelson’s (79) Chevy Malibu as Nelson was attempting to turn southbound onto highway 31. Nelson was later pronounced dead at Cullman Regional Medical Center.
Sgt. Joey Duncan, who is a Traffic Homicide Investigator with Cullman Police Department, stated “on 01/21/2019 at around 8:00 A.M. the Cullman Police Traffic Homicide Unit was called to investigate a two vehicle crash on 2nd Avenue NW (US-31) at the intersection of Brantley Avenue NW. Ms. Charlotte Nelson (79), was driving a 2005 Chevy Malibu. The other driver involved in the crash was Quintana Rainwater (32), who was driving a 2003 Ford Escape. After the crash investigation was complete it was discovered human error and driver impairment were involved, which resulted in the death of Charlotte Nelson. This case was turned over the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office and Grand Jury Indictments were issued. On 09/04/2019, Ms. Rainwater was arrested for Murder (Reckless), Manslaughter, Criminal Negligent Homicide, Driving Under Influence, and Running Red Light.”
Rainwater is currently in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
